Writing Task 1 Table

Table은 다른 그래프들보다 정보가 정확해서 '대략' 영어로는 around, nearly, approximately 등 이런 단어들이 나오지 않습니다. 아래의 Table을 샘플 답안지와 함께 살펴봐요^^

The table below gives information about consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002.

Sample Answer:

The table illustrates the proportion of national expenditure in Ireland, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey on three categories of items in 2002.

Overall, all countries spent most on food, drinks and tobacco, which was almost three times that of the other items. The lowest expenditure was on leisure and education in the five countries. The expenditure of Turkey overall was higher than the other countries.

In terms of food, drinks and tobacco, Turkey spent the most at 32.14%. The expenditure of Ireland was also high (28.91%) compared to Sweden which spent the least (15.77%). Spain and Italy spend 18.80% and 16.36% respectively.

Italy spend more than the other countries on clothing and footwear (9%) as opposed to the lowest expenditure which could be seen in Sweden at 5.40%. The other three countries spend on average around 6.5%.

The lowest expenditure was on leisure and education which accounted for under 5% in all countries. Turkey spent most on these items at just 4.35% of their national expenditure which is around double that of Spain who spent the least at just 1.98%.

자, 이제 Table을 하나하나 살펴봐요.

여러분이 Table에서 찾아야 할 요점들은 아래의 4가지 입니다. 

전에 pie chart에서 설명했었는데, 먼저 가장 높은 것과 낮은 것, 그리고 가장 크게 차이나는 수와 가장 유사한 수들을 살펴보아야 합니다.

4. the closest similarities

2nd Paragraph:

두번째 단락을 보면 Table의 전반적인 경향을 보여 주고 있습니다.

overall,은 전반적으로, 라는 뜻입니다. 

High Numbers

그리고 그 후에 모든 나라들이 food, drinks and tobacco에 더 많은 돈을 쓰고 있다고 합니다. 가장 높은 것이 바로 food, drinks and tobacco였습니다. 얼마나 차이나 나는지 적어 준다면 더 좋겠죠? 그래서 그 후에 또 다른 카테고리들 보다 이게 3배 가까이 차이가 난다고 적혀 있습니다. 

Low Numbers

그 다음 바로 가장 낮은 카테고리를 적었네요. 

다섯 나라는 leisure과 education에 가장 적은 소비를 했다고 합니다. 

마지막으로 전체적으로 보면 터키가 나라들 중에서 가장 많은 소비를 한다고 합니다. 

이렇게 전반적인 것을 적어 놓으면 정리가 쉽게 되고 그 후에 무엇을 어떻게 적어야 할지 감이 옵니다. 

3rd & 4th Paragraphs:

세번째 문단과 네번째 문단은 비교를 하고 있습니다.

In terms of food, drinks and tobacco, Turkey spent the most at 32.14%. The expenditure of Ireland was also high (28.91%) compared to Sweden which spent the least (15.77%). Spain and Italy spend 18.80% and 16.36% respectively.

어렵게 생각하실 필요없이, 보시면 별다른 말 없이 그저 좀더 자세히 설명하고 있을 뿐 입니다. 

가장 높은 순서대로 적어 놨네요.

모든 나라들 중에서도 가장 많은 소비를 한 터키가 얼마큼 많이 소비를 했는지 설명하고 있습니다. 그 다음 Table을 살펴보면 아일랜드가 터키 다음으로 많은 소비를 했습니다. 그리고 아일랜드와 가장 소비가 적었던 스웨덴을 비교합니다. 그 후에 간단하게 나머지 두 나라 스페인과 이탈리가 얼마만큼 소비를 했는지 알려줍니다.

네번째 문단은 두번째 카테고리인 Clothing/Footwear을 설명하고 있습니다. 두번째 카테고리에서 가장 많은 소비를 한 나라는 이탈리네요. 

문장을 보면, 가장 많은 소비를 한 이탈리와 가장 작은 소비를 한 스웨덴을 비교합니다. 그 후에 고만고만한 소비를 한 다른 나라들을 자세히 설명하지 않고 평균적으로 6.5퍼센트 안으로 소비를 했다고 적었습니다.

5th paragraph:

다섯번째 문단은 마지막 카테고리인 leisure and education을 설명하고 있습니다.

The lowest expenditure was on leisure and education which accounted for under 5% in all countries. Turkey spent most on these items at just 4.35% of their national expenditure which is around double that of Spain who spent the least at just 1.98%.

첫번째 문장의 시작을 모든 나라들이 leisure and education에 가장 지출이 적었다고 합니다. 그 후에 가장 소비가 큰 터키와 가장 소비가 적은 스페인을 비교합니다. 

Table 리포트를 쓰기를 어려워 하시는 분들 말이, 너무 정보가 많아서 뭘 써야 할지를 모른다는 겁니다. 아이엘츠는 여러분이 모든 정보들을 자세히 일일이 적는 것을 원하진 않습니다. 이 Table의 경우에는 그렇게 정보가 많진 않지만 다른 Table들을 보시면 당황하실 수도 있습니다. 8개나 10가 넘는 카테고리들이면 정보가 정말 순식간에 불어난 것처럼 보이기 때문이죠;; 그래서 전체적인 트렌드를 적으시고 가장 중요한 요점들만 찍어서 쓰셔야 합니다. 

결국 연습! 연습만이 익숙해 지실수 있는 방법입니다^^ 

 

자, 여러분 이렇게 보면 어렵지 않죠? 결론적으로, 거의 모든 리포트들은 가장 많고 가장 적은 것을 비교합니다. 그리고 그 사이사이에 자세한 사항들을 집어 넣는 거죠. 

너무 쉽게 생각해도 안되지만 너무 어렵게 어렵게 생각하지 않으셨으면 합니다. 너무 어렵게 생각해서 손댈 엄두도 못내고 시작도 하기 전에 자신감을 잃어 버리면 안되잖아요?
